The first of the five race Nottinghamshire AAA Summer League series took place last week at Hexgrave Hall and Mansfield Harriers had its biggest contingent competing for many years with 36 green and blue vests crossing the finishing line in a record field of 595 finishers. The race saw many fine performances from the Mansfield club in both the team and individual competitions and shows great promise for the season.

Mansfield Harriers turned out in force for the first of the five races in the Booth Decorators Summer League last week at Teversal. An impressive 20 athletes completed the 4.5 mile race around the local trails in a huge field of close to 450 competitors.

Mansfield Harriers rising star Luke Duffy earned his first England call up last week after his stunning win at the National Indoor Championships. Running at the Wales National Indoor Arena in Cardiff for England Under 18’s over 1500 metres against England Under 20’s, Wales Under 18’s and Wales Under 20’s Duffy put in a superb run to place second on the day.

Mansfield Harriers have seen early season Track and Field action this weekend with athletes competing at the Spring Spruce event at Harvey Haddon stadium in Nottingham. In glorious but windy conditions the Harriers athletes all showed they had wintered well.

Running at the National Athletics Indoor Age Group Championships at the English Institute of Sport Mansfield Harriers Under 17 star Luke Duffy tasted national glory for the first time. Racing in the 1500 metres Duffy went in as pre race favourite and handled the pressure superbly as he took the title in a time of 4.03.42.

Another busy week of cross country, road and fell action for Mansfield Harriers that saw athletes once again competing across the UK. The highlight of the weekend was the final cross country events of the winter with Mansfield athletes competing in the English Primary Schools and year 7 Cross Country Championships at Prestwold Hall near Loughborough and the Home Countries international in South Wales.

Mansfield Harriers rising star Archie Rayner put in a stunning performance on his England Athletics cross country debut Competing at the IAAF permit meeting in Caceres Spain in the Under 20 race Rayner had one of the best runs of his career taking second place overall and in so doing turned the tables on the athlete who had placed first in the Midland championships two weeks earlier.

Mansfield Harriers have had a hectic weekend of action with athletes competing across England on the roads, cross country and track.

Prestwold Hall just outside Loughborough was the venue for the Midlands Cross Country championship on the 28th January and Mansfield Harriers took a small team to the event and were rewarded with two championship medals.  The course was a true test of cross country after a downpour the night before with mud and heavy patches throughout.

Mansfield Harriers were well represented at the Retford Half Marathon on Sunday one of the biggest local road races in the county calendar. The club had a superb 19 athletes complete the race which also doubled up this year as the County Championship for the half marathon and the club came away with individual glory with three athletes taking county honours.
